Music that is used in plays, TV, radio, video games and films, is called incidental music. The reason behind this is that it is background music. Background music often sets the mood for the entire scene or segment. For example, somebody crying with happy music wouldn't have the same impact as to somebody crying with sad music. A theme song is also often remembered with a certain TV show or film. Basically music is vital to all media (plays, TV, radio, video games and films).
